Catechist Certification in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington
To serve as a catechist in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington, a person must:
- Be a fully initiated member of the Catholic Church
- Participate faithfully in the sacramental life of the Catholic Church
- Complete background checks and child protection training as outlined in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington Child Protection Policy
- Lead a life that is doctrinally and morally consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church
Catechist Certification:
Since catechists must be formed for evangelization in the present world, it will be necessary to use wisdom in harmonizing the attention due to persons and to the truths of the faith, personal growth and the community dimension, care for spiritual dynamics and dedication to the effort for the common good. Certification Requirements:
- Complete Living Catholic
- Volunteer Catechists can complete Living Catholic online or in person
- Employees must complete Living Catholic in person
- Complete the five core courses of Faith Foundations. Courses may be completed in-parish from an archdiocesan approved instructor or online here
- Participate in the one-day Archdiocese of Washington Evangelizing Catechesis culminating retreat
